Samoan Rugby Team Visits St. Mary Magdalen – Manu Samoa

We were visited by the Samoan International Rugby Team this morning. They joined us for our 10:30am Mass and sang a Samoan Hymn at the end of Mass. Samoa play their first game of the Rugby World Cup next Sunday at the AMEX Stadium against the USA.

We will be cheering them on and praying for them at the Rugby World Cup. You can follow their progress on Twitter.

A&B Jubilee – 40 Hours at St. Mary Magdalen

Our own contribution to the Diocesan Jubilee celebrations willbe 40 Hours of Eucharistic Devotion beginning on Monday 29th June at 8.00am and ending at midnight on Tuesday. It will be continuous going through the night.

On Sunday we will start signing up people to watch throughout the 40 hours and selling candles to be used to illuminate the Lord as we watch with him. There will also a collection flowers over the next few weeks.

We will need men to watch and pray through the night, dosage and retired people pray through the day, we need everyone to invite their friends to this time of grace and healing.


Solemn Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Brighton

We have two upcoming Solemn Masses in the Extraordinary Form.

On the 14th of May, capsule we will have Mass at 7:30pm for the Feast of the Ascension.

On the 29th of June, information pills we will have Mass at 7:30pm for the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul.

We will also have a sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form for Corpus Christ on the 4th of June. This will be followed by a short procession and benediction.

The Light Is On

During our weekend retreat, view Fr. Stephen commented on how nice it was to see those in the parish making such good use of the Sacrament of Confession. Confession was available during all Masses, clinic as well as during the Holy Hours.

Please be reminded that Confession is available after every Mass at St. Mary Magdalen and also, by arrangement if required outside these times.

As Pope Francis said :

every time we go to confession, God embraces us


Mercy – Parish Retreat – First Day

Our parish retreat started this morning. We had Mass at 10am followed by Stations of the Cross. This was led by Brother Gregory from the Premonstratensians. Fr. Stephen then gave a blessing with our parish relic of the True Cross followed with an opportunity for veneration of the relic.

Candlemas – Monday 7.30pm – Blessing of Candles, Procession, Missa cantata.

Candlemas or the Purification of the Blessed Virgin, information pills now called Presentation of Lord, buy is the final feast in the Christmas cycle (the crib comes down afterwards). With lighted candles we process to the altar, re-enacting the Virgin Mary bringing the Light of the World to theTemple and the Church’s mission of bringing Light to the world.

At this Mass the Candles for the entire year are blessed and candles are given to the faithful to be taken home.
